Painting over them will hide them for a season. They get opened and patched with a compatible stucco mix and primed first — and if the framing behind one is still moving, we will tell you it may reappear rather than promise otherwise.

Do maple cabinets need the grain filled?

No — maple is tight-grained and takes a smooth painted finish without it. That is oak’s problem. Maple does need thorough de-glossing so the primer bonds to the factory lacquer.

We have stucco rather than brick. Is it the same job?

No. Stucco cracks are usually frame movement and need opening, patching with a compatible mix and priming first. Bridging them with caulk and coating over holds for a season and then splits again.
