About interior paintingWhat should I take into consideration when choosing a color?
Four things: any existing colors in the space (woodwork, carpet, furniture), the size of the space, the amount of light it gets — both natural and artificial — and the main purpose of the room. Our In-Home Color Consultation exists to work through exactly this.
How long will my interior paint job last?
Interior painting lasts longer than exterior because it isn’t exposed to as many harmful elements. Most would tell you to repaint every three to five years. We use high-quality Sherwin-Williams paint and back interior work with a lifetime warranty.
Do I need to be home while my house is being painted?
No — and in most situations we actually advise against it. On a whole-interior project we mask and cover every area first so we can work faster than room by room, which means furniture and appliances stay protected for the duration. Where it helps, we finish one bedroom on day one so you have somewhere to sleep. We use zero- or low-VOC paints for walls and ceilings, so staying is more feasible on a walls-only project than one involving cabinetry.
Exterior Painting
About exterior paintingWhen is the best time to paint my home’s exterior?
Exterior paint applies best in warm temperatures, so late spring through early fall is ideal. That lets the paint dry at a proper speed and gives the best chance of avoiding the high humidity or precipitation that stops paint bonding properly.
What exterior color should I choose if I am selling?
Neutral and muted usually. Lighter colors are the most popular — off-white, light gray, taupe, light blue or green. If you want to make a statement with something bolder and darker, the best sellers are red, yellow and blue.
Do you replace rotten wood before painting?
Yes. Carpentry repairs are a standard part of our exterior process. Painting over soft wood is the fastest route to a callback, so it gets replaced first.
Cabinet Painting
About cabinet paintingWhat type of paint is best for cabinets?
Semi-gloss and gloss finishes are the best choice. Cabinets see a lot of use and wear, and glossier finishes offer higher durability as well as a surface that is easier to clean.
Is it a good idea to paint kitchen cabinets?
If you want to freshen up your kitchen and change the look of the space, painting your cabinets is an extremely easy and affordable way of doing it. The best way to make sure it adds value is to hire professionals who use top-quality paint and help you select the right color.
How invasive is the process?
The average cabinet job takes between three and four days and the process is fairly invasive. We discuss exactly what to expect up front and how we will minimize the disruption.
Brick Painting & Limewashing
About brick painting & limewashingDo you have to clean brick prior to painting?
Yes, and it matters more than people expect. The surface must be thoroughly cleaned to remove all mold, dirt and debris — if it isn’t, the paint struggles to adhere, which compromises both the quality and the service life of the job. We do all of that preparation for you.
What is the best way to apply paint to brick?
We use a masonry brush, stroking both horizontally and vertically. That works the paint into all the small holes and seams in the brick surface rather than bridging over them.
How many coats of limewash do I need?
For a whitewash effect, a single coat of Classico Limewash. For a solid-colored finish it takes two to three coats before it becomes non-transparent and reads as a solid color.
